Our service follows four key steps:

  • First, we’ll contact you to gather the information our surveyor needs and arrange a convenient time for your visit.
  • Your surveyor will then visit your property to carry out a comprehensive assessment.
  • Using this information, they’ll create a complete energy model of your home.
  • Finally, you’ll receive your detailed report, and if you have any questions about the findings, we’ll arrange a follow-up call to discuss them with you.

Nothing beyond providing the information we ask you to give in advance to ensure our surveyor has all the information they need to provide the best service for you.

The survey should take approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the size of the property.

Futureproof operates across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire. If you live in this area and want to make your home more comfortable, greener, or cheaper to run, we’d love to help.

For some surveys in certain areas, we might refer you to one of our partner organisations – Retrofit West or Bath and West Community Energy. This is because they provide similar surveys, often at a discount because they have utilised local funding. Often though, the surveyor conducting your survey will be from Futureproof. So, although you might book a survey through another organisation, you’ll receive the same quality and information that you need.

Retrofit West was launched in 2023 by the Centre for Sustainable Energy – the same charity behind Futureproof. It’s a one-stop shop offering independent advice and support for energy-efficient home improvements in the West of England. It coordinates local supply chains, facilitates training, and helps households plan, design, and deliver sustainable retrofit projects to achieve net zero and energy affordability. Visit their website for up-to-date information.

We consider all suitable energy efficiency improvements for your home, from draught-proofing and insulation to heating improvements and renewable technologies.

This survey also includes modelling of air-to-air heat pumps, a type of heat pump gaining popularity for its ability to heat and cool your home via air conditioning.

We can include an EPC for an additional £66. An EPC provides a basic energy efficiency rating, required for getting the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for heat pumps, or if you are selling your property or renting it to tenants. Our survey goes far beyond this one metric, using advanced modelling technology to understand how different improvements will work within your home and providing a detailed roadmap with specific recommendations.

No. The heat modelling that underpins our survey report and recommendations works for a single building. If there is a separate building, like an annexe a separate survey and model would need to be carried out for that.

No, but as part of the retrofit survey, we will consider issues such as historic significance. This may require permission from your local planning authority before you can make changes to your home, because it may affect what is possible.

While we do offer general product recommendations and plans to move forward, we are not installers, and so we do not provide a full building specification. We supply this information so that you are aware of some of the key factors that need to be considered in the detailed planning of your retrofit work.

You will still need to confirm specific requirements with your designer, installer or builder.

Energy modelling helps us to calculate the carbon and bill reductions of your home after installing certain measures.

Measurements from your home, plus other information such as energy use and bills, is uploaded to specialist software. We can then test different energy efficiency scenarios for your home to determine which measures, and combinations of measures, are most suitable for your home and which will have the greatest impact.

Your report will be unique to your home and its features, but we have an example report you can read. Download an example report.
