Full survey and retrofit plan

In the UK we’re facing two big problems – rising energy prices and the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions. People are increasingly worried about how to reduce energy use in their homes to save money and take action in the fight against climate change. Retrofit is the best solution to both of these issues.

What happens during your retrofit survey?

Your retrofit survey will be completed by one of our qualified retrofit surveyors, looking at your home from floor to roof to identify how you can make your home warmer and less wasteful, saving you money and energy.

You’ll receive a bespoke retrofit report with recommendations on the most cost-effective and impactful home retrofit measures for your unique home.

Why should you get a retrofit survey?

A retrofit survey is a long-term investment. You’ll receive vital insight about home improvements that will save you money and energy for years to come. Here’s how a retrofit plan helped Marie transform her home.

More information about retrofit surveys is below, and how you can order at the bottom of the page.

More Information

The detailed report will:

  • Present two or more retrofit scenarios for your home, based on different levels of cost and disruption, and accounting for the recommended phasing of installation. These scenarios will be accompanied by approximate performance outcomes and budgets.
  • Highlight any issues you may need to address before or alongside undertaking your retrofit work.

As part of this service, our retrofit surveyor can identify key considerations such as planning requirements and may be able to help you identify skilled contractors like our Futureproof Associate Builders to install the measures.

There is an option for the survey to include an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) if you would like one, for a small additional fee (£35 + VAT) to cover our costs of producing one.  It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue and is a legal requirement if you are selling or renting out your property.

Once we’ve given you your report, our surveyor will arrange a follow up consultation with you (maximum 1 hour) so that you can ask any questions about the report and find out more about how we can help you on your next steps. You can find an example of the report here.

Although this detailed retrofit survey and report is a powerful tool that helps you understand the retrofit options most suitable for your home, it does have its limitations. For example:

  • It does not recommend specific contractors to carry out retrofit works, although we may be able to refer you to contractors for some specific measures (e.g. our Futureproof Associate Builders).
  • It does not tell you exactly what action to take – instead, it makes recommendations and presents scenarios that can help you decide your preferred course of action.
  • It does not include securing statutory permissions such as planning, building control, etc.
  • It is not a detailed retrofit works specification, and so does not include bespoke retrofit solutions for specific parts of the house (e.g. construction detail drawings), prescribe which materials or construction methodology should be used, or specify particular systems or products.
  • It does not typically involve invasive work during the survey.

If you require help with any of the above items not included in our detailed retrofit survey and report, you may be interested in some of our other services, including retrofit consultancy and project support, project management, planning appeal advice, or quality assurance services.
